Flickr

A photo sharing website you might have heard of.

I spent 20 minutes spinning my wheels until I figured out I was one level too deep into the array the library gave me.

Still needs printing by tags for it to be "feature-complete", but I already ordered a book of my set of Red Tuesday photos.
Yup, I'm still glad I didn't release my proof of concept to the public.

Which Any Dumbfuck Can Do

Nick Starr links to me discussing his new site, which posts photos of scantily-clad women he finds on Flickr. Jason Kottke links to some similar sites (I know of more), and I even had an idea for one, which takes in RSS feeds of tags from Flickr, automatically creates a post from each item. I even created an RSS feed of images tagged with both 'me' and 'girl'. It's currently possible to get RSS feed with images tagged with either 'me' or 'girl', but not only both. I've ranted about Flickr and RSS feeds already. The theory is that young women posting photos of themselves are more likely to be a little vain, but with looks to backup that vanity. Did I mention that the young women in question would be fully-clothed? (Midriff allowed, of course!) The site would create a post from each item, and sets it to 'unpublished' until I publish and edit them. That is, I would do a little writeup about each photo, maybe link to their website if they had one. All current sites do not add any value to the photos, merely reposting photos of beautiful women, which any dumbfuck can do. Not that value needs to be added, granted, but still.

Nick and I talked briefly this morning, and he asked what I meant by what I would do differently, and that's it. But I'm not, for the following reasons. First of all, it was a proof of concept, and mission accomplished. Second: how many requests from female friends would I get to post a photo of them? At least one, which is one too many. Third: this would not do wonders for my so-called dating life.

FlickrLicio.us
One of many such sites, getting closer--but still not close enough--to my ideal type of site that republishes photos of pretty girls from Flickr.
Despite my uneasiness with people taking photos of strangers without their permission, for me the line is crossed only if it's not obvious to members of the public that you're taking photos.
Awesome, another system to game.
