fare paid zone

Driver responsibilities for Vancouver's fare paid zone are confounding
I expected to be able to walk on the bus without busting out my pass, but habit and lack of consistency around fare checking compel me to show it every time.

Stephen Rees on TransLink fare evasion
My photo adorns his excellent article, which also talks about fare evasion in London, and some of the tactics officials uses to reduce it. Vancouver's fare paid zone starts today.
This transit vehicle is a Fare Paid Zone

"Proof of payment is required at all times and must be procuded for inspection upon request. Failure to do so is an offense." Seen on a bus, in anticipation of June 25th, where the entire TransLink system becomes a fare paid zone, with fare checkers instead of enforcement by drivers.

I knew it would be useful to someone. I tried taking a photo of the one on SkyTrain, but they're backlit, so it didn't come out. Funny how they put the signs on the buses well before actually implementing the fare paid zone (SkyTrain was already a fare paid zone), but it makes sense that they do it now and not the night before for all the buses.

I haven't lived in BC for 35 years, so this "fare paid zone" makes no sense to me. You get on a bus, you pay a fare, right?

@stephenrees: Interesting piece. The only Canadian news in my local press runs to Margaret Trudeau—How that dates me!—and Alberta oil sands.

To see how things work on this side of the Pacific, search for tags Pasmo, Suica, and "stored fare."

Fare Paid Zone (Inside the New Granville Station Entrance on Dunsmuir)

The elevator makes the station finally wheelchair accessible, and the entire system theoretically accessible. Except for, temporarily, Brentwood and Sapperton.
