Being Inappropriately Right

Mark Pilgrim: “If this surprises or disturbs you, you’re in good company. Galileo, after pissing off the church and being sent into exile for being inappropriately right, accidentally discovered one day that there are as many perfect squares as there are integers. This surprised and disturbed him very much, and he quietly and probably wisely decided not to make a big deal of it.”

Spec

Hopefully those reading this site via the RSS 2.0 feed won't be in for too much of a shock when they learn that, later this month, I'll have switched it with a feed that does not contain the full entries. This is being done so as to conform to the spec and leave it alone for good.

Replete With Stressful Vicissitudes or Endless Mundanities

Rod Liddle: “a) there are indeed cultural pressures that contribute to keeping women in the home; and b) there are in some cases economic pressures also; but c) a lot of women don't work because they don't like working -- for many of the reasons why men don't like working, if we're honest. It's a drudge. It never stops. It is replete with stressful vicissitudes or endless mundanities.

Contains

Monday night, I sent a photo that my sister sent me by email to the author of a weblog, thinking that he'd post it on his site. I do this sometimes when there's stuff I'd rather not appear on my site, but also when I have no ethical dilemma having it posted somewhere else. Said weblog author he did indeed post the photo (contains nudity). I can now admit that it was a cynical attempt to get a spike in hits for this site. A successful attempt I might add.

Unbiased Weather

Steve Gigl: “they're used to getting unbiased weather where they live, while the Cities stations believe that to get viewers for their news they need to scare the hell out of them. So we get "snowstorm" stories where once we would only get "snowfall" stories.

Loved And Supported, Cherished

Craig Anthony: “a woman who is truly dominated, truly owned by a man, is not weak. Indeed she knows her greatest strength. Loved and supported, cherished. She is in a position to realise all her dreams. To be all that she can be. Wholly secure in her femininity, in her self worth. For that is what nurturing masculine dominance desires above all else.”

As a warning (or perhaps encouragement), the quote is from an article about spanking.

Friend of C

Michael Erard: Friendster “is built on the premise that friendship is transitive; that is, that if A is a friend of B, and B a friend of C, then A can be a friend of C, too. ¶ But friendship develops in social contexts, Ms. Boyd says; it doesn't just flow through the pipes of a network.

Reflexive Tolerance

Lorne Gunter: “Not a single news source I have found has sought to refute Spencer's claims about homosexuality -- not one. All have merely seen fit to denounce him for daring to express such beliefs, which have been variously described as "appalling," "outrageous," "antediluvian," "dangerous," "ignorant," "bigoted," un-Canadian and a host of other names.”

Auto-mutilation nippone
