The Curse Is Over

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and Red Sox Nation—they're not just fans, but a nation—on the team's win of the 2004 World Series. This is an historic win, the first time since 1918 that the Red Sox have won a World Series, and the comeback to beat the hated Yankees was the biggest comeback in baseball history, possibly major league sports history. You've probably heard the story: ever since the Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees, they have been plagued by what many fans thought of as a curse—the World Series losses up to and including 1986, as well as the post-season weirdness that followed the Red Sox around (e.g. the famous "home run" that a fan in Yankee Stadium caught)—and a favourite refrain of Sox fans was "oh well, maybe next year". Well, maybe this year.

To the Red Sox fans in New England, enjoy your holiday. The curse is finally over.
