250 and 257 Blue Buses cancelled?

Not quite correct, I'm currently on a bus boarded at the ferry terminal the time this screenshot was taken.

I was in Hawaii on this day, and yet part of me wanted to be back home to photograph the snow and its chaotic effect.

How Do You Solve A Problem Like Captions Over Chyrons?

Inspired by "Why Chyrons Attack" at the Tea Makers blog. To test whether I can make a screencap of EyeTV in HD (yup) and to see if the CBC still did captions over chyrons (a word I only learned today: so that's what they're called!). And no, I don't normally watch How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?.

Most TV's these days let you pick where the closed captioning resides, either the lower or upper third of the image. Check your menu settings to be sure, but you should be able to set that for upper or lower. Some sporting events use both the upper and lower thirds for graphics...you'll just have to play with it to see what works for you.

I guess I'm used to subtitles doing it (yes, I know they're different) so maybe I expected captioning to recognize the chyron's and get placed above them.

Yeah, unfortunately that can't work the way the closed captioning system is currenty done. The graphics information gennerated by the Chyron becomes part of the program image while the closed captioning data is encoded and sent seperate from the program image. That's how you can tell your TV where to put the CC data, since it's something your TV is adding over the image. I suppose that it's technicially feasable to write some sort of recognition software that would recognize the presence of lower third graphics but I don't know of any TV that has that as an option.

Fully Charged New Battery Capacity: 98%

The thrilling conclusion of replacing my old, defective MacBook Pro battery. Since when DHL came to the office and evidently nobody answered (not sure that even happened), I would have had to call Apple to tell DHL where to deliver it. Except I was on Vancouver Island for the Christmas holidays, and didn't know if they'd be able to deliver it to my parents' place before I left. So instead, I picked it up at the DHL depot at 303 Vernon St.

Politically Neutral Delivery

Screenshot from the DHL Canada website. But which election does this refer to? Colorado and New Mexico voted Republican in the 2004 Presidential Election, and CO went red in 2000 (NM went to Gore).

That's just weird. I can't even figure out what they're trying to say. Is it supposed to be funny?

"Unlike our competitors, we deliver to Republican strongholds"? Yeah, I don't get the joke either.

Current Battery Capacity: 17%

That's when plugged in and fully charged. It jumps up (!) to 26% when I unplug it. Screenshot taken using coconutBattery. I've consulted the battery exchange page for MacBook Pro 15-inch laptops, but that doesn't apply to me. I'm going to try battery callibration, but that seems like voodoo. One person tried this but success looks limited, and my case is extreme since I bought my MacBook Pro 8 months ago. I get about 20-30 minutes of battery life. Should (or can) I get a replacement battery from Apple?

That battery should still be in warranty, and unless it's been abused, Apple should replace it as they did for my MacBook battery when it exhibited similar behaviour. If you have AppleCare, so much the better.

I called Apple, and they agreed to send me a replacement battery. I imagine I'll get it within the week.
