Karl is talking about a large TV screen showing a news program that he saw at a metro stop in Montreal. My translation of the above paragraph: “Having lived without television for more than three years no, with a few intrusions in cafes, hotels, or while at my parents' place, seeing these giant screens surprises me greatly; it's almost disturbing. My first reaction was to take a photograph so I could share this novelty. What will be my second reaction? Will I be absorbed with this extra screen, me who spends a lot of (too much?) time in front of a computer screen?”

Richard — Sun, 2005-03-20 15:15I believe that the idea Karl was trying to get across with the word "supplémentaire" was that the screen was "supplementary" to the experience people are supposed to have when they wait for a train in the subway, that is, inappropriately supplementary. Is there a word better than "extra" that could go in my translation of his sentences?
