No Device Of Man

January 25th, 2004

al3x makes a good musical find in Junior Boys. In the same spirit, I'd like to share two finds of mine: DI.fm's Deep House channel, especially the juicy MP3 feed. Deep house is not how I'd characterize what gets played on that channel: it's more funky than deep. Also of note is sample-based instrumental hip-hopper (and fellow Influx mailing list member) Human Being. "Humanity" wins second-prize in the Creepiest Sample of George W. Bush In A Hip-Hop song. Since "Humanity" only quotes the word "humanity", the top honour goes to Forgotten Lores' "Sannleikurinn endursagður", which quotes Bush's USS Lincoln speech at length: “Today, we have the greater power to free a nation by breaking a dangerous and aggressive regime. With new tactics and precision weapons, we can achieve military objectives without directing violence against civilians. No device of man can remove the tragedy from war. Yet it is a great advance when the guilty have far more to fear from war than the innocent.”
