Sunday Links

A list of links, to be updated throughout the day. Or not.

  • Nick Denton argues convincingly that Democrats can beat Bush if they take what are traditionally Republican issues and run with them. (Note the last sentence of Denton's essay though.)
  • Here's a reasoned, informative article why Arnold Schwarzenegger may not get elected. Note the lack of telling you what to do. Well it tells you why you shouldn't vote for him, but at least lets you come to that conclusion if you so choose.
  • Here's the least measured and therefore least effective plea to vote against Arnold Schwarzenegger you'll ever see. Besides, he's telling you how to vote. Do you like being told how to vote? Didn't think so.
  • I've seen this analysis of Executive Order 13303 linked at a few places now, and yet no link to the actual Executive Order. No mention is made of Section 4, or Section 5, which states that the “order is not intended to, and does not, create any right, benefit, or privilege, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by a party against the United States, its departments, agencies, entities, officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.” Oh well.
  • Don Park's portrait updated: I grew my beard because shaving seemed pointless. If girls aren't beating down the door, why bother?
  • jogin.com: on Agnosticism. I recently read American Atheist's interview with Douglas Adams as part of the latter's Salmon of Doubt collection.
  • The Date Project: One Year Later reflects on writing a short-lived weblog.
  • Five Paragraphs. Reminds me of my idea for a writing project, which was to be 7-paragraph essays on every 7th day of the month. But so much for that.
  • Steve Martin: “Come on, Iraq is just one big salt flat and no dictator can look out on his vast desert and not imagine an A-test going on. And let's face it, it really doesn't matter if they had them or not, because they hate us like a lassoed shorthorn heifer hates bovine spongiform encephalopathy.”
  • If you ever wanted video of a white kid rapping a Ludacris (!) song, this is your lucky day.
  • What I Love About Women. Also: What I Love About Men.
  • Malls need a Rent-a-Girlfriend service. Well, at least a rent-a-fashion-conscious-female service. I can only ever buy nice clothes if my mom's around to force me to try things on. Otherwise I buy t-shirts and/or jeans.

My Various Witty Remarks

Follow @sillygwailo on Twitter!

  • Third day in a row at City Square for @vanjazzfest, this time with @jmv to see the Shannon Scott Trio.  http://flic.kr/p/6BRUyD
  • @vanmega pants are a challenge no matter what you're doing.
  • How do awkward nerds do at SXSW? #couchbeers
  • @jordanbehan I'm going to hurtle downtown for #couchbeers. If you hear something crashing into the Strutta building, that's me and my bike.
  • Is the bike parking situation on the Vancouver Art Gallery block really as bad as I think it is?
