sweetness, how was the show?

It was really great: Lyrics Born had a live band this time, and finally a show where I enjoyed Joyo Velarde's part of the show (she seemed to try too hard in the previous two shows I've seen Lyrics Born at). Richard's on Richards is a really great venue for him, a lot better than the Plaza Club.

I was at the show but didn't get a chance to shoot (didn't know I could shoot...). Were you standing up against the left of the stage most of the time? I was keeping an eye on some of the photographers there.

Yup that was me. This was the second show I had seen at Richard's, and the first where I saw cameras, which also happened to be the one where i brought a decent camera myself. So I didn't know what to expect, and the quality of the shots (this is by far the best of a lousy lot) should improve as I do it more often.

I was inspired to bring my camera by the guy at the TV on the Radio show a little while ago at The Commodore: he had this huge camera and I was like "hey, I have a camera like that!" and thought I'd give it a go with my favourite hiphop act.

Very cool, I'm a huge Lyrics Born/Quannum fan as well.

Out of curiosity do you have any idea what venues allow photography? I didn't want to risk showing up with my gear, just to get turned away. I've always been under the impression that only house photographers get to bring in SLR cameras.

Also, I was pretty jealous of the guy who was shooting on-stage...

"Out of curiosity do you have any idea what venues allow photography?"

That's a good question, one I wanted to ask the Vancouver Flickr group. I think it's only the house photographers that get to go on stage. A couple of years ago, a security guard tapped on my shoulder when I took photos at the Quannum show in 2004 but I was using a flash camera, which I admit is lame. But like I say, last time I went to The Commodore quite a few people had them, if mostly point-and-click. Richard's and The Commodore are the venues I care about, since most of the acts I want to see play there (plus they're great venues), and they seem to be camera-friendly.
